Get to know Nocturnal.
What you need to start, how your workspace connects, and where Nocturnal fits into your workflow.
Getting started
What is Nocturnal?
Nocturnal is a connected development workspace for running AI agents and keeping your projects under control. It brings Git, GitHub issues, CI, ports, processes, and deployment scripts into one place.
Use the app on your computer and continue through the web dashboard on your phone or another device. Explore the features.
Who is it for?
Nocturnal is for people building with AI who want more structure around changes and releases, and for experienced engineers who want more capable agent workflows. It works for one important project or a portfolio of client work.
Start with your first reviewed release or an agent workflow.
What do I need to get started?
Install Nocturnal and create an account. Nocturnal detects Claude Code or OpenAI Codex already installed and signed in on your computer. Otherwise install a supported provider tool, then sign in with your provider or add an API key in Settings → Providers. A key alone does not install the provider tool. Connect your GitHub account to use its issues, pull requests, and CI information. AI-provider costs are separate.
Which platforms are available?
macOS is available now. Windows is on the way, and native iOS and Android remote apps are coming soon. The Download page shows which installers are currently available for each platform. The web dashboard works on your phone and other computers, with a connected computer running the project.
Can I bring an existing project?
Yes. Choose Import a project, select its folder, then Sync project info to discover services, scripts, and project information. You can also create a new project from an idea.
Pricing
How much does Nocturnal cost?
Your first month is free, with no credit card required. After that, Nocturnal is $5 USD per user per month. The subscription includes the connected workspace, cloud sync, and collaboration for general usage. Higher-volume storage or usage may be offered under separate packages in future, with notice before applicable price changes.
Will I be charged automatically after the free month?
You do not provide a credit card to start your free month. Subscribe after your trial if you want to continue using Nocturnal.
Are AI credits included?
Bring your own Claude Code or OpenAI Codex access. Nocturnal does not include or resell model credits. Your AI-provider subscription or usage charges are separate from the Nocturnal subscription.
Do I pay for every device?
The subscription is per user. Your account can connect your computers and phone without a separate Nocturnal subscription for each device.
Is there a free local edition?
Nocturnal is one connected product. An account is required, and cloud sync, workspace recovery, and collaboration are part of the experience. The offer is one month free, then $5 USD per user per month.
Cloud and devices
What follows me between devices?
Your account settings, personalities, and cloud conversations are available across your devices. Each computer keeps its own project list and workspace information backed by Firebase. Your phone can select a connected computer and continue the work there.
What happens when I reinstall?
Sign in with the same account. On a recognized computer, Nocturnal restores its saved project list and workspace layout, along with your account settings. Reconnect any missing project folders and sign in to your coding tools again if needed.
Workspace recovery covers Nocturnal information. Keep repository files backed up through Git or your usual backup service. Read the recovery guide.
Can I continue from my phone?
Yes. Sign in to the web dashboard, select a connected computer, and open a cloud conversation. You can send prompts and manage work on that computer. It must be awake and online for remote commands and agent runs.
Can I collaborate with someone?
Invite them from a project’s People settings. The invitation gives access to that project through the computer running it, including its shared cloud conversations and controls. The invited person needs their own Nocturnal account. You can revoke access.
You also choose what they can do — watch, plan, edit files, or full access. Only full access can auto-accept on your computer; the rest is enforced on the machine that runs the project, so their app cannot widen it.
What information is stored in the cloud?
Firebase stores account settings, saved device/workspace information, cloud chats, and the status needed to continue across devices. Cloud chats can contain code snippets printed by an agent.
The data guide explains what syncs, which services process information, and the available chat settings. Privacy has the full policy.
Agents and Loops
Which coding agents can I use?
Claude Code and OpenAI Codex are supported. Choose an available model, switch between Ask, Plan, and Agent modes, and adjust effort where supported. Nocturnal uses the provider tools and access on your computer.
What does Loop do?
Loop repeats a prompt after each finish or on a schedule. Use it to work through the next item on a plan, check logs hourly, or prepare a weekday recap. Choose a count or let a scheduled Loop run until you stop it.
Read the Loop guide for timing, questions, errors, and what happens when the computer is offline.
Can I queue work or fork a conversation?
Yes. Follow-up prompts can wait in a session’s inbox, and work queues per project by default. Fork a conversation to explore another direction while retaining the original. A chat fork copies conversation context; it does not create a separate Git branch or worktree.
Can I stop an agent?
Stop ends the active run. Stop loop cancels future repeats while allowing the current run to finish. You can inspect the changes already made and decide the next step. Agent controls.
Projects and delivery
How does port management help?
Nocturnal shows which services are listening and which project owns them. Open a preview directly or inspect a conflict. When two projects clash, it prepares a remap prompt for you to review before an agent changes the selected project.
What is the difference between a process and a script?
What can I do with GitHub inside Nocturnal?
Review changes, commit, work with branches and pull requests, manage issues, and inspect GitHub Actions runs. Turn an issue into a draft agent prompt and investigate a failed CI job alongside the work.
Does Nocturnal set up CI or host my application?
Nocturnal shows your existing GitHub Actions and runs the deployment scripts you configure. Your project still needs its own checks and hosting setup. The first release guide shows how those steps fit together.
Are versions the same as Git history?
Nocturnal versions are readable release notes for your team or clients. They complement Git commits and tags. Marking a version deployed records that it shipped; it does not perform the deployment.
Working with your tools
Do I have to stop using my current editor?
Your projects remain ordinary folders and Git repositories. You can use your existing editor alongside Nocturnal’s dashboard, or open code in the bundled editor. Nocturnal brings the project’s agents, runtime, and delivery information together.
Is Nocturnal open source?
The Nocturnal product repository is private. Your own project configuration and release notes remain readable files in your projects. GitHub is the system of record for your issues and repositories.
Can I use the CLI or MCP?
Yes. The CLI controls the engine on the computer running Nocturnal. The MCP server is at https://nocturnal.sh/mcp: add it to Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, or any MCP client, sign in with your Nocturnal account, and it reaches any computer on your account. See the CLI reference and MCP guide.
