Versions and changelogs
.nocturnal/versions.json is a client-readable release log. It is not a replacement for git tags.
The History sidebar Overview is a timeline: open one-liners at the top, then each sealed version with the work that shipped in it. Cut the next version from there. See Working changes.
Cut a version
The Versions tab Increment button launches a visible agent. You pick a model and can add a comment ("focus on billing"). The agent reads commits and uncommitted work since the last baseline and writes the entry.
One increment runs at a time per project. A second click is rejected until the first finishes.
Save and numbers
Saving a version that already exists walks to the next unused minor so the list never has duplicate keys. Edit the JSON with Edit file if you need to. After a save, Nocturnal can offer a vX.Y — Version log update commit.
Mark deployed
version.markDeployed stamps the entry when that SHA is live. The dashboard shows the current version plus the last three entries, and whether a CI run's SHA deployed.
Copy for clients
Open the entry and copy the summary. The draft is written as complete sentences on purpose. Do not treat the log as a dump of commit subjects.
