What syncs to your account

Cloud sync is part of Nocturnal. Firebase keeps workspace information available for device switching, recovery after a reinstall, and collaboration. Privacy describes the full policy.

Saved with your account

  • Your sign-in identity and linked computers
  • Agent defaults, personalities, tones, shortcuts, and other account settings
  • Each computer’s saved project list, opened-folder information, and workspace layout
  • Cloud conversation text and the status needed to continue work remotely
  • Project, Git/CI, port, and process status used by the web dashboard
  • A small copy of each project’s favicon, so the phone and hosted dashboard can show it
  • Project invitations and feedback you submit

Sign in again on a recognized computer to recover its saved workspace information. A second computer shares your account settings while keeping its own project folders and layout.

What workspace recovery covers

Sync preserves Nocturnal information. It does not back up the repository files, local databases, or full process/script logs. The one piece of repository content it copies is each project’s favicon — the usual icon filenames only, under 24 KB, removed when the project or the icon is gone. A bigger icon stays on the computer and the project shows a folder mark away from it. Keep those in Git or your normal backup system. Tokens and API keys are managed on the computer that uses them, and may need reconnecting after a reinstall. Nocturnal holds no GitHub credential at all — it reads a short-lived token from the GitHub CLI when it needs one, so revoking access is gh auth logout and nothing of yours is left in Nocturnal’s files.

Chats and AI services

New chats sync by default. A cloud conversation may contain code snippets or other content the agent printed. Your coding agent also communicates with its AI provider using your access.

Settings → Cloud controls whether new chats sync. Keep on this Mac keeps an individual conversation out of cloud chat storage; it then cannot be continued or shared through the hosted dashboard. This chat setting does not turn Nocturnal into a separate local product.

When you connect an app to the MCP server, Nocturnal stores the app's name and return address, plus fingerprints of its sign-in tokens. The tokens themselves are never stored. Each command it sends and its result pass through your account the same way the dashboard's do, and are kept only as long as a dashboard command is. The local version keeps its sign-in on the computer it runs on, in ~/.nocturnal/mcp-auth.json.

Attachments are currently held on the computer. If you use voice input, audio is sent to your selected transcription provider, rather than saved to Nocturnal’s Firebase storage.

Anonymous usage analytics

Nocturnal records anonymous, aggregate usage events — page views, download clicks, active-install heartbeats, agent starts and completions, and feature usage — to understand how the product is used and where friction happens. These events are stored as daily totals in Firestore, not linked to your account, and are visible only to operators. No user-identifiable information is included in analytics events.

The public website and hosted dashboard on nocturnal.sh also load Google Analytics, and Google Ads conversion measurement for sign-ups, downloads, mailing-list joins, and trial starts. It is never loaded by the desktop app or the local dashboard, and no name, email, or account id is sent to Google. In the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland it runs cookieless. See Privacy.

Collaboration and control

Someone you invite can access the shared project through its connected computer, including its cloud conversations and project controls. They use the tools available on that computer. Revoke the invitation to remove that access.

A plan request is different, and deliberately narrower. Someone you send one to gets a single planning conversation — they cannot see your projects, your other chats, or anything else on that computer, and they cannot change, run or deploy anything. What they write and the scope they agree to are kept with the project; withdrawing their access leaves that record intact.

We do not sell personal information. To delete your account and all cloud data, open Settings → Cloud → Delete account on any device. You can also contact support@nocturnal.sh for questions, exports, or manual deletion.
